I currently see about 15 energetic special education kiddos ranging from Kindergarten to fourth grade. I also work with students at my school that have social emotional issues or behaviors. I am a Special Education Resource teacher, so I pull kiddos who need extra help with reading, math, writing, and behaviors. My students come to school happy and full of energy each day and ready to learn. They dream about being teachers, superheroes, and veterinarians. Some of them have been in school since they were three because of speech delays or other disabilities. Most all of them love science!
Most of the students I work with struggle with managing their emotions and behaviors.
They can benefit from a program and lessons that focus on the issues they are dealing with such as sadness, anxiety, anger and courage. We have some very tough students that have overcome a lot in the short time they have been alive. I would love to be able to help them be successful.
My Project
I work with Special Education students, and also see students that need extra support with behavior and social-emotional skills. The students at my Title One school mostly come from poverty and have had a lot of trauma in their lives. They often have to deal with a lot outside of school which carries over to the school day. They often don't know how to deal with emotions and issues they are having.
This Educator's Guide and book set will help me teach the students I work with how to deal with topics such as anger, anxiety, sadness, patience and more.
The stories are easy to read and talk about a variety of emotions that these kiddos deal with on a daily basis. The cute character and plushies make it fun to learn about emotions!
