Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In our Spanish class, we will use literature as a meaningful way to explore the rich cultural traditions of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). This holiday honors the lives of loved ones who have passed and celebrates memory, family, and cultural identity. Through reading in Spanish, students will be introduced to key vocabulary such as ofrenda (altar), calavera (skull), cempasúchil (marigold), and pan de muerto (traditional bread). These readings will provide both language practice and cultural insight.
As a final project, students will create a personal ofrenda, inspired by what they’ve learned in the readings.
This will include decorated altars, short reflections, honoring someone meaningful while practicing Spanish in a creative, culturally respectful way. This hands-on experience will connect classroom learning to real-world cultural understanding.
