My Students
We are Pre-K to 5th graders in Crown Heights, Brooklyn with a love for learning. My students love technology like most kids. All of my projects and lessons try to capitalize on this fact. While learning can happen in many different ways I believe that my students love to learn when their curiosity is sparked. That's what I do and I need your help.
While buying technology that students can consume is great I think it is better to teach them how it works and even how to fix and build it.
More of my focus has been on making and creating in my computer lab.
My Project
Being the technology teacher at my school lets me share my love of technology with my students. The best way to share that love is by introducing students to the joy of accomplishment. The pride one feels after having fixed something that is broken or, even better, using a skill to make something brand new. America has lost its desire to invent. I believe teaching kids skills like soldering will give them a foundation that will help them think of creating not just consuming new technology.
Soldering is a great skill to learn and it's relatively easy.
Teaching my students to solder will open up a whole new world of creativity. Imagine a student that can fix the broken Bluetooth speaker at home or use parts to make one themselves. Imagine the things they'll invent.
