Learn to Love Reading

Help me give my students TIME for kids and literacy. We want to teach our 5th grade students that reading is something to be enjoyed. We will read under the trees and enjoy our reading time.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a Title I school and my students are kind and funny and eager to absorb all the knowledge they can. For many, school is the place where they feel safe and cared for.

In school, they have staff and teachers who respect them and support them.

We have students that do not have access to the internet.

Their living conditions do not favor virtual learning. The only possibility is brick and mortar education, and they are returning to the building.

My Project

We want our students to see reading as an enjoyable activity. Students are used to viewing reading as a task, as work in school.

Please help our students to fall in love with reading.

It is a gift they will always treasure. By providing them the material and the time to read for pleasure, we will encourage them to change their attitude towards reading. Time for Kids is an excellent resource because it has exciting topics for children, but it is also pedagogical. When students love reading, they become avid readers, they are never alone, and they can be more successful in future endeavors. We plan on dedicating a specific time to go out to our PE field and enjoy reading under a tree while listening to the birds and in the company of friends.
