it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am the high school librarian of a large urban 9-12 secondary school in California. One of my professional objectives is to help students actively engage in their learning and to assist my colleagues in presenting their content in the most dynamic, creative, and authentic way possible.
Many of our students struggle with staying focused, comprehending the material, and maintaining connected to their education.
Gamefying the curriculum is a fabulous strategy to help all students succeed and discover the joy in learning.
However, many of my colleagues teach in ways that do not engage their learners and do not spark creative and creative thinking. For many, they know no other way.
It is my goal to teach my colleagues how to deliver academic material in a manner that is accessible to our students and that inspires interest and wonder.
My Project
This three day virtual workshop will teach my colleagues about the importance of gamefying the classroom to spark creativity, instill critical thinking, heighten interaction, encourage motivation, and increase understanding and recall. The game designer who will be leading this professional development is associated with UCLA's Game Lab, a department that studies the history of games and its practical and pedagogical application in the classroom. At the end of this virtual workshop, all participants will have created a customized game to teach their students the standards from their discipline and will have an opportunity for feedback from both the gaming expert and our learning community.
