My Students

Do you remember what it was like to get lost in a good book as a child? Today's kids are reading less and spending more time on digital toys. I would like to bring the technology "toys" into my room and show students how to use them to increase their learning.

My class is very diverse in learning levels and economic foundations.

Many of the students do not have access to technology and with budgets getting tighter, less is available through our schools. I would like to offer my students multiple opportunities to use technology while also teaching reading and math. Ipods are amazing for learning. Students can record themselves reading a story and then listen to their reading. They love repeating this process therefore repeating the reading. Students also love the engagement of math games that stretch their skills and fluency in math facts. They think they are playing but it is all under the umbrella of learning. Whoo Hoo we both win.

My Project

We are requesting ipods for our classroom. We will then download various academic learning tools such as read aloud stories, money games, time games, math facts, and even writing opportunities such as spelling. The students then work through the games and activities increasing their skills at their own pace and with the joy of technology. We are also going to explore the camera capabilities by taking pictures of our classroom and our work and using them to enhance our classroom website and our PowerPoint's, etc.

Technology is everywhere you look.

Our students must be well trained in how to utilize various types and what better time to start than when they are beginning their education. I want to set the foundation so that it can continue to grow throughout their academic career. I will also be teaching the next grade level next year so I will be the one pushing these students through another year of learning.
