Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Like millions of students across our state, my students left on a Friday afternoon and did not get to return the following Monday. I did not get to give them a proper goodbye, nor did we go over how we would be meeting in the future. This coronavirus pandemic disrupted our learning and the daily comfort and routine that school provides. It also abruptly halted our face to face daily interactions that bring us all so much joy and security.

Students struggle at the beginning of the year to get necessary school supplies and getting supplies during a sudden pandemic shutdown is even harder.

My students went home Friday with no materials to continue their learning.

My Project

I want to use the sidewalk chalk to give students a new and fun way to express their learning and ideas. There are so many ways to use sidewalk chalk (fractions, time, p.e, measurement, etc) Many of my students do not have access to nonessential items like chalk, but they could use it to learn, play and practice motor skills at the same time. I also want to have card-stock paper so that I can create durable items to help students from home. Notebooks would give students a place to journal, work out work, jot down ideas, write notes, etc.

I want my students to continue writing and learning but also have fun and play outside!

They can use these materials to express their thoughts and ideas that we are learning about.
