Learn Math by Doing Math

My students need math materials and manipulatives such as geoboards, common core activity cards, practice cards, math Bingo games, coins, and fraction flash cards to help change students learning about math.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics." As a first year teacher, I'm slowly starting to feel like I have enough materials to properly teach my class. The major thing that I am missing is math manipulatives- hands- on materials to help my students to better understand math.

My school is a Title 1 school located in a diverse metropolitan area.

We have 7 third grade classes, each with approximately 25 students who come from very similar situations. The majority of the students in the school come from low income families, many of whom are also from Hispanic families. Almost 95% of the students in my classroom are ELL learners whose native language (and the language spoken primarily at home) is Spanish. My students are bright, excited students who are eager to learn and eager to please. They know that I want and expect the best out of them, and they want and expect the best out of themselves.

My Project

My students will be using these materials to help them with their mathematical skills. All of the materials are hands- on manipulatives that my students will use in both whole group and small group instruction. With these materials, my students will learn about fractions, money, multiplication, division, geometry, and so many other math skills that are crucial to a third grader.

Donations to this project will tremendously improve my classroom.

Math is such a real life skill- being able to see and practice with money, see shapes in every day life, and understand how fractions will affect different things in their life. Having these manipulatives will help to change my students' understanding of math.
