My Students
My students are middle school students in a Chinese course.
My students are courageous and willing to take challenges because Chinese language is not easy to learn.
Here is an example to show that my students are eager to learn. I have vocabulary flashcard competition at the beginning of every class. They love it. If I cancelled the competition, they would ask for it.
My Project
In my Mandarin class, students learn both the language and the culture. Calligraphy and Chinese painting are important aspects of Chinese art. It is also a fun way to learn and write Chinese characters. I purchased some cheap brushes and 3 bottles of ink years ago from China using my own money. The brushes are bad quality, most are broken now. The ink has only half bottle left.
Students will use the materials to learn Chinese calligraphy and Chinese painting.
Students will use clean brushes and clean water to write on re-writable magic cloth to practice calligraphy. They will use ink to draw Chinese painting or write calligraphy on sumi paper. Once a brush is dipped into ink, there is no way to wash all the ink off, so it can not be used on re-writable cloth. The brush and cloth sets will be used as rewards for students who produce great work.
