it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is located in the city of Camden. The city of Camden is known as one of the poorest cities in the nation, whose public schools are well below the national and state standards. In order to further embed the college dreams in our youth and bring up the state standard, I believe it starts with books and a well-rounded early childhood experience. It is my mission, in collaboration with our parents and the community, is to strive to provide children an excellent education in a safe and positive learning environment where they are prepared with the critical skills to reach their full potential for a world yet to be imagined.
My Project
From birth through to early childhood, children use their senses to explore and try to make sense of the world around them. They do this by touching, tasting, smelling, seeing, moving and hearing. A sensory path is a colorful, creative and playful way for kids to build sensory pathways, connections in the brain that are responsible for sight, touch, sound, etc., which enable kids to complete complex, multi-stage tasks. A sensory path is a great way for kids to develop motor skills like balance, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness, and it is normally made with stickers that can be stuck to any surface.
With the Cricut Machine, I will be able to put in the time and work to create my own sensory paths for the entire school.
Ordering pre-made sensory paths will cost the school between $5,000-8,000. The students in my school will benefit as the walk down each designated hallway with the sensory paths. The high-energy nature of many of these exercises, which require kids to hop, step, and jump, can also be a great “brain break” throughout the school day. Sensory paths are the perfect mid-morning or post-lunch break, especially if the students can't go out for outdoor recess. Sensory paths are also an important part of a concept called sensory play, which is exactly what it sounds like: play designed to stimulate and improve your child’s five senses.
