My Students

My students come from a low-income neighborhood and face struggles and challenges on a daily basis. Included in their daily challenges are often times financial struggles. All of my students receive a free breakfast and lunch every school day. My goal is to make the classroom a fun and welcoming environment where they can learn and grow regardless of what goes on outside of school. Even with what these kids face on a daily basis, they come to school with a positive outlook and a love for learning!

With the income restrictions placed on the families that I serve, many of my students do not have access to supplies to help them thrive.

My kids love to play, read, move, and everything else that your average kindergartner does in a day. I cannot control what goes on outside of my classroom, but I take pride in what goes on inside of it. I want to make sure that my students strive and that they have what they need to be successful and continue their love of learning.

My Project

I have had the opportunity to have my students work with Keva planks in my summer school class setting. I have watched them learn and grow by experimenting with their creativity. Keva planks allow students the freedom to use blocks to build whatever they can imagine. There is a small book of ideas, but often times, students use their own creativity to create structures. My students have built anything from boats and trains to towers and houses with these planks. These planks will be used to strengthen my students’ math and STEM knowledge.

It is just as amazing to watch the excitement in their eyes when something that they have created with these blocks comes out the way they designed as it is to watch their brains think through problems when their design fails.
