My Students
"Education is the most important weapon we can use to change the world.” -- Nelson Mandela
My students are a sweet group of first graders who come from many different countries including nations in Africa, Palestine, Iraq, Brazil, Vietnam, China, Japan, the Congo, Afghanistan, Venezuela, Cote D'Ivoire, Lebanon, Spain, Peru, Angola and the Dominican Republic.
They are an excited and eager bunch! A portion of my students qualify for refugee status and coming to America has been exciting and overwhelming as they adapt and learn the language and customs. Many are first-generation English speakers.
My Project
Having book bins will help my students to keep their leveled reading books with them, whenever they are reading. These book bins will allow my students to transport their "good fit" books with them when they go to their reading station, where they will be able to read individually or with a buddy. Good fit books are books that students choose that are at their instructional reading level. Book bins will also be a great place to keep the library books that are checked out from the school library so that my students have access any time to level of interest or "just for fun books". Students will be able to learn responsibility and organization by having their own book bins.
