This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I remember as a child spending hours on learning games on the computer. This familiarized me with technology and was a motivational way to help me practice basic math and reading skills. Please help me give the same opportunity to my students!
I teach a group of loving first graders eager to learn and excited to be at school.
Many of my students are learning to overcome learning disabilities that require persistence, practice and reinforcement. My classroom is in a large urban school in New York. Many of my students are emerging bilinguals. They are creative and bold with a lot of fun personality. I walk into my classroom every day excited to see their bright and shining faces.
My Project
I am requesting seven games for our Leapster explorers. At the end of the day every day I spend time working in small groups with students on skills they need extra support to master. This means I need to engage the rest of the class in activities they can learn and be successful with independently. I have four Leapsters that my students love to play with, and we need these new games to practice and reinforce basic math and reading skills. My students are bright and excited to learn but because of various challenges they are facing, it is critical that they spend lots of time practicing these basic skills in order to retain memory. My students will become more fluent mathematicians and better readers because of these materials.
This project will support me as a teacher during my small group instruction time and it will support my students to maximize the time we have together and give them rewards and exposure to technology in our classroom.
