it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you visualize not having any reading materials in your home environment as a child? Unfortunately most of my students face this obstacle daily. My students have very limited resources in their hands. For this reason, they have not been able to discover books and develop a passion for reading.
My 22 students live in a poverty stricken environment.
Many of them have not been exposed to any type of reading materials prior to enrolling in our Title I public school. Nonetheless, this does not prevent them from wanting to learn and coming to school so enthusiastic to learn. Just within the last twelve weeks of school, they have developed a love for books. They especially enjoy stories that they are able to use their imagination. They thoroughly love to hear stories from cassettes or compact discs. Therefore, I am positive they will value the selected materials, because it will get them one step closer to becoming independent readers.
My Project
The books that I have selected will enable my 22 students to read materials that they can expand their imagination with. The series will provide a larger selection of reading resources. The batteries will enable me to keep the Tag Readers charged for my students. The Tag Readers will help them throughout the school year as they follow along and listen to the stories. The Tag Reader stories will open so many doors for my students that have been shut to them prior to attending their first year of school. One of the year's goals is that they will be better prepared for the upcoming school years.
My 22 eager learners will develop a passion and/or love for books that will enhance their future. They will learn to value literacy since it is part of our everyday life.
These books will make a huge difference in my students' lives because they will provide an opportunity that they had not realized was missing.
They will allow my students the ability to become independent readers which in turn will build their confidence as successful individuals. The books will better prepare them for the upcoming educational requirements.
