My Students
My students love to play video games. Wouldn't it be wonderful if they were learning while they are playing? My students are leaping into reading head first, learning their sounds and sight words. Now, they need to apply those skills to reading stories.
My students are wonderful, energetic kindergartners from a variety of backgrounds.
They attend a Los Angeles Title I public school. They are excited and eager to learn. They love sharing their thoughts and ideas. Some of the students in my class have attended a preschool program and know the letters of the alphabet, but they are just learning how to read. Some speak languages other than English and are only exposed to English at school. They need extra opportunities to practice reading skills and have stories read to them.
My Project
My students are eager to learn and they enjoy their independent work time. After they complete a task during independent work time, they get to move on to an activity of their choice. The LeapFrog Leapster game systems would be an excellent addition to their learning experience in the classroom. The Leapster games would give my students a variety of choices to learn with. My students would think they are playing, but I know they will be learning.
Currently, my students only have a few choices of independent activities, most of which are practicing writing their letters and matching letters to pictures.
They need activities that are more interactive and will capture their interest and keep it. The Leapsters game systems and games will allow my students to improve their reading skills even more by practicing with a tool that is fun and interactive.
