When is the last time you saw a child playing a handheld game system? Most of us see that on a regular basis and I want to take advantage of it. I want to create a literacy center using the highly educational Leap Frog products. I want the Leapster Explorers to really make this a great center!
I teach kindergarten.
We are on summer break but last year I had 17 to 18 students and should have around the same this year. They are on various levels when it comes to reading. My kids last year would have loved to have these handhelds, they really enjoyed the few other Leap Frog products I had available. Many of them do not have access to these types of items at home.
My Project
Leapster Explorers provide reading and math activities to help the students learn. There are several wonderful things about these systems. First they can be set to a level by the teacher so I know they are getting the support they need. Second they can be independent or group activities for the students, which is perfect for center time. The last and best reason for using the Explorers is the students think they are just playing a game and do not realize how much they are learning. It is fun for them and educational!
My project is to create a literacy center for my students.
This will provide them a fun educational activity while I work in small groups or one on one with students who need extra help. It will provide them with extra practice and me, the teacher, with more quality instruction time.
