This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you recall the time you fell in love with reading? My 22 students have not yet had that opportunity to develop a passion for reading because of the lack of resources in their home environment. Most of my students have not been read to prior to entering their first year of school.

My 22 student attend a Title 1 school.

Nine weeks ago, most of them were not even aware of the letters and the names of them. They come from a home environment without resources to have prepared them for school. However, this doesn't hold them back from being eager learners. They are so ready each morning to absorb what is being taught to them. In the short time since starting school, my Kindergarten students have made gradual progress because of their exposure to the learning environment.

My Project

The selected materials will provide my 22 students with an opportunity to explore books through the use of their imagination. Because they are beginning readers and still working on letter identification and the letter sounds, the Tag Readers will allow them to hear the stories aloud as they follow along. My goal for all of my students is to better prepare them for the upcoming school year of being able to reading 60 words per minute. My students will learn to appreciate the importance of literacy since it is part of everyday life. It will better prepare them for their educational future.

The reason these materials will make such a difference in my students life is because they will have hands-on items at their exposure.

Unfortunate for them, they haven't yet experienced literacy and the importance of it. It will help them to become independent learners and provide them with the ability to develop a love for reading.
