This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In order for my students to excel in reading, I must plan small group guided reading lessons. Small group lessons enables me to give individual students more direct instruction. My problem is what to do with the other students. These other students need learning centers to keep them engaged.
My first grade scholars live in high poverty neighborhood in NY.
Many of them live in shelters. School is a home for them where they eat, learn and play. They love books and are excited to learn how to read in first grade! First graders are active and social.
My Project
It is so important for my students to become life long readers. If I had learning centers, I could really have effective small group guided reading instruction. The centers are engaging, fun and easy to use. They are also great learning tools. The students will also learn how to work independently while the teacher is working in a small group.
These learning centers would have such a motivating impact on my first graders.
They will promote learning, independence and learning skills. While they work in learning centers, the students in small reading groups will learn how to read fluently and build their reading comprehension skills. The CD players will be a wonderful technology to introduce to my students. They will be able to listen to their favorite stories on CDs and eventually reading along with the CDs!
