Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first graders are a tech-savvy bunch. They are growing up in an incredible time of innovation and they are eager to learn how to use it. My school is always looking to find the best technology to support their learning. We were fortunate to receive a few iPads and computers and a CD player for the students to use during center time. Having this technology available to them has greatly expanded their skills.

But with all of this great technology comes the need to teach students how to use it independently.

In order for my students to use these devices during learning centers and remain focused, I am hoping to get a few pairs of kid-friendly headphones and a headphone splitter for my listening center.

My Project

My students use technology throughout the year in a variety of ways. iPads and computers are used during center time for independent work, and the listening center is a fan favorite as a place to relax and get lost in a book. Many of my students are English Language Learners, and headphones provide them with an opportunity to hear and practice the language even when I am not with them. I have seen the huge difference that this extra practice can make, and my ELL students love the chance to learn independently. By the end of the year, all students are using the iPads and computers to do research projects on American symbols and dinosaurs.

Having these headphones will allow my students to focus on the work at hand and allow me to worry less about technical difficulties!

I can focus entirely on my teacher table activities knowing that these headphones and the listening center are all fully functional. Having an extra pair on hand will also let me quickly replace a set that is having technical difficulties. As careful and cautious as my students are, they are still six years old and accidents sometimes happen!

I like LeapFrog products because they are durable and made by a company that understands the needs of students. Having these supplies will help us leap into the new school year with confidence!
