My Students

Help my students become the readers they need to be before they leave first grade.

Like the flowers in my garden my first grade scholars are all unique.

Some are learning English as their second language, some have speech and language impairments, one has a hearing impairment, some are struggling readers and others show a talent or giftedness in academics, sports or the arts. What they have in common is that they all attend a Title 1 school in one of our nation's largest urban school districts, and they all need to know how to read.

My Project

A LeapFrog Tag Readers kit would allow my students to have instant access to help when reading independently. They can simply move the stylus to the word they are having difficulty with and the Tag Reader will read it for them, or they can read along with the system to practice fluency. The kit comes with pens and headphones for four students and eight different books. What a wonderful resource for all of my students, especially those learning English or with speech and language impairments. The headphones will allow my young scholar with the hearing impairment to participate successfully too.

What a great beginning this would make in building a LeapFrog library in my classroom.

The more time children spend actively engaged with books the better their reading fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. Please help my students leap into reading.
