Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need LeapFrog Lappets to be able to explore and learn kindergarten academics in at their own level, while having fun.

Please help my students Leap into language!

I work in an urban school in Connecticut. 100% of the students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch. My classroom has 20 students right now. However, our numbers change constantly. For almost all of my students kindergarten is their first exposure to school. Therefore they enter with little to no background in letter names, letter sounds, and counting.

My Project

During the school day, I have an hour designated for small group reading instruction. While working with a small group of 4-5 students, the remaining 15 students work independently at work stations. Seeing that kindergarten students in general need a lot of help, this time can be difficult to manage and for students to complete successfully. I would love to be able to have my students use the LeapPad tablets during this time. Giving my students access to these tablets would allow them to explore reading as well as the academic language taught in class. The programs I have chosen will allow them to explore and use of these new concepts. This would be a work center that they could use successfully and independently.

By having these tablets in my classroom, it would allow for students to work independently at a work center everyday.

Having 2 students work independently will allow me to be more focused on my small group instruction because these students would not need my help. These tablets will help improve my students learn phonemic awareness skills, math skills, and reading in a fun and interactive way. I am asking for 2 tablets with covers, games and headphones.
