Le Francais All the Way!

Help me give my students high-interest informational texts in French including books about skateboarding, soccer and animal habitats. Also, help provide book sets to my students to reinforce learning in history and geography.

My Students

My 3rd grade students come from anglophone and francophone households and are part of a French dual language program. They are unique because they are navigating their 8 year-old worlds in two languages.

Learning in both French and English is a cognitive and linguistic challenge that excites them.

After all, they love puzzles and opportunities to put their nascent skills to the test. My students aren't just 3rd graders you see, they are linguists and cultural anthropologists in their own right!

My Project

Theses books will be the bones of a classroom library that will foster reading in French, especially of informational texts. For example, the book sets on Asia, Europe, North America and the other continents will help support students' content learning in geography.

There are also texts on high-interest topics such as animals, habitats and sports.

In our 3rd grade curriculum, students are asked to focus on skills in informational reading across two units. We currently don't have enough informational resources to support this kind of learning in French.

The ultimate goals of our French dual language program is to enable students to become bilingual, bi-literate and bi-cultural. In providing books to supplement the classroom library, you would be paving the way for these goals to come to fruition.
