My Project
The aim of this project is to increase available funding for student field trips.
To ensure all students have access to high-quality learning experiences without financial strain, we aim to create a self-perpetuating funding mechanism that offsets rising field trip costs, reduces the financial burden on families, and expands access to additional learning opportunities for all LCPS students.
Part of the LCPS mission is to create hands-on learning opportunities in a community-based school. Many of our field trips provide hands-on, real-world applications of classroom learning in subjects like genetics, economics, and agricultural science. While we take advantage of our proximity to downtown partners for walking field trips, some of the most impactful experiences require transportation beyond city limits. This project also aligns with our commitment to experiential learning by giving students the opportunity to gain practical experience in commerce through fundraising efforts that directly support their own educational opportunities.
Although we are conveniently located within walking distance from many of our downtown partners, there is a frequent need to travel beyond the limits of walking field trips. With 37% of our students qualifying for free and reduced lunch, additional fees for transportation and entry costs often present a financial barrier to participation. To address this, we seek to establish a sustainable funding source that ensures all students, regardless of socioeconomic background, can access field trips and annual equity experiences that might otherwise be financially out of reach. Additionally, by developing this funding mechanism, we can also provide support for school clubs, offset costs for refreshments at community events, and reduce reliance on external donors, allowing them to focus on their broader mission while we independently sustain our students’ learning opportunities.
