Imagine every teacher's dream. An amazing textbook, hands-on lessons with materials, and prepared high quality PowerPoint presentations all together in a great package and provided by the district, except... no way to project the PowerPoint lessons for the students. Our school is designed to support students who have traditionally struggled in Middle School by providing small class sizes, and high quality individualized academic instruction. In my science classroom I teach interactive lessons with student centered projects. In order to provide state of the art education students need access to the latest technology, and that includes an LCD projector for teacher led science or technology lessons, academic videos, and student project presentations. Throughout the year I will be supplementing the science curriculum with lessons that teach technology and presentation skills. For example, students will be doing a group scientific research project on Asthma rates in Oakland. With the LCD projector we will hold a class scientific conference and present PowerPoint presentations of our scientific findings. This experience is designed to give students the experience of being a scientist, while gaining technology and public speaking skills. With your help my students can have access to state of the art technology, learn valuable technology and presentation skills, and present and project their hard work for all to see.
