I teach 12th grade Western Civilization and AP US History. The school services high-need students in urban Illinois. We are a charter school that focuses on skill development in order to get students into college with the skills they need to be successful. We have just started an AP program this year, and I believe an LCD projector will help make this course a success.
Images are tremendously important in my teaching. Images help students recall the immense amount of information taught in AP US History. As of now, I get a projector about once a week from the science department, but I could utilize one every day. My students respond to visual images in history, and I believe their performance on the AP exam could be improved substantially by seeing more historical images on a daily basis. We are the first AP US History class at my school and we need your help!
This LCD projector will be used to display maps, graphs, charts, images, and films regarding US History. Students will interpret images, political cartoons, and primary sources that will be displayed on the LCD. This will improve their higher order thinking skills and, ultimately, improve their score on the AP exam.
You can make it possible for my students to become truly immersed in the history of our nation. As African-American inner city students, they frequently feel left out or alienated when discussion American History. Consequentially, their passing rate is tremendously low. You can help change this. These students are engaged and ready to roll, and you can help us pioneer a successful AP program at my school.
