LCD Projector-Bringing Science Content to Life

My Students

Do you remember what it was like trying to understand difficult science concepts with only a text book in front of you? I sure do and it made many of the interesting things in class difficult and at times boring to learn.

I am a teacher working in the Chicago Public School system.

My school is in a lower income neighborhood that also serves the needs of a large group of refugees. I teach social studies and writing to my 6th grade homeroom and science to all of the 6th graders at the school. My school is very diverse with students from over 30 different countries. Approximately 40% of the students are English language learners. I also serve the needs of several special education students in the 6th grade.

My Project

One of the greatest challenges as a teacher is finding ways to bring the curriculum to life. This is especially difficult when you have many students who are just learning English and struggle with basic vocabulary and concepts. Most of my students struggle with the concepts and ideas in science. Having an LCD projector would enable me to bring science and social studies to life on a daily basis. Being able to show students different concepts and basic vocabulary would help everyone, especially the English language learners. No longer would I struggle to explain new vocabulary and concepts. No longer would students rely on old-fashioned poster board presentations. With an LCD projector I could give my students access to rich photographs, videos and presentations. An LCD projector would bring content to life and make it so much more meaningful to all of my students.

An LCD projector would start to help each and every one from the day it arrives and for years to come. Such a simple piece of technology could make a huge impact on every student that comes through my classroom.
