Laughter is the Best Medicine!

My 4th grade students need books that will make them laugh and motivate them to read.

Knock, knock. Who's there? A teacher that wants to motivate her students to enjoy reading! Last week, I was reading a short text to my inner-city 4th grade students and we were laughing so hard we were crying. It was then that I realized that I needed to update our classroom library with more humorous books.

After I read the hilarious story, my students were begging for more funny books. I also recently learned that within comic books, there are on average 53.5 rare words compared to 30.9 rare words in children's books. I know that my students need exposure to more sophisticated vocabulary, so adding more comic books to our library is a perfect solution.

I have selected a variety of humorous books that will get my students rolling with laughter. I've selected novels, picture books, comic books and joke books at a range of reading levels, so all of my students will be able to enjoy a good laugh.
