My students need Joying Toy Animal Friends Deluxe Kids Hand Puppets and Melissa & Doug Farm and Zoo Friends Hand Puppets along with a collection of Seedlings animal books to learn while playing!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My first graders have vivid imaginations! They are creative thinkers who love to learn while playing. My classroom is filled with curious and funny six- and seven-year-olds who enjoy interacting with each other in class. I teach in a small neighborhood public school that serves many military students and their families.
My students are learning social skills in addition to reading and writing--as they laugh and learn-- by collaborating with each other and working with partners.
Through animated play, they put on shows, skits, plays and share what they learn with each other through stories and play.
Playing and learning go hand in hand...and that's one of the things I aim to provide in my classroom setting.
My Project
Laughing and learning--it's a winning combination don't you think? When children are happy, engaged and smiling, they learn better from their peers, teachers and books.
Just like laughing and learning should go together, animal puppets and books can work magic by helping students work on their speaking and listening skills.
First graders need to develop fluency in their speech, gain vocabulary and work on understanding the joy of having a conversation with peers. These animal puppets will bring hearty laughs as children pretend to be the animal puppet of their choice.
Moo! Oink! Bzz! Roar! These are only a few of the sounds that will be heard in my classroom as students explore through the eyes of their animal puppets. Who knows what stories they'll share, tell or write?
