This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Transitional Kindergarten is where everyday is an exciting and new learning experience. The children are taught that they are special and unique. " WE ARE SMART, WE ARE SPECIAL, & WE CAN LEARN" is our chant. We are learning to grow, laugh and learn together each day.
My students come to school each year eager to learn and seeking understanding of the world around them.
The kindergarten students I teach live in an urban Los Angeles neighborhood with the majority of the families living below the poverty line. A high percentage of the students in my class are English language learners. Kindergarten is the first learning experience for many of the students.
Our school is located in the inner city and my students face daily economic and social challenges. Regardless of their disadvantages, my students are excited for school. I strive provide a safe and nurturing learning environment. It is my goal to create lessons that will enrich their academic skills as well as their lives.
My Project
Learning can be fun through hands-on lessons and engaging classroom materials. These math and literacy games will enhance my learning centers. On a daily basis, the students rotate through math and language arts centers. The children are constantly engaged in hands-on learning through puzzles, manipulatives, and other learning activities.
The students rotate daily in centers in order to provide learning opportunities for the different types learning modalities: visual (seeing), auditory (hearing), kinesthetic (moving), and tactile (touching). My students work independently as well as cooperatively during these centers. In the literacy centers, they practice phonic and phonemic awareness skills which are essential to become fluent readers. During their Math Activity Centers, they focus on developing their number sense. These new resources will provide my students with a different resources and avenue to learn skills necessary for reading and math competency.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you'll GO!"- Dr. Seuss. With your support, I will be able to provide exciting and engaging new learning materials for my students.
