Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students will explore the lives, struggles, and cultural contributions of Hispanic, Afro-Latino, Indigenous, and other underrepresented Spanish-speaking communities. The project promotes racial justice and accurate cultural representation through research, storytelling, and creative expression.

This project will introduce students to the cultural diversity within the Spanish-speaking world, with a focus on Hispanic, Afro-Latino and Indigenous voices.

Students will engage with authentic texts, videos, and biographies to research a person, movement, or community that has contributed to the fight for racial equity and representation. Materials requested will support culturally responsive instruction and help students see themselves and others reflected in the curriculum.

I am proud to teach a diverse group of students who bring rich cultural experiences and powerful personal stories into our classroom. Many of them are first- or second-generation immigrants, bilingual learners, or members of historically marginalized communities. What I love most is how eager they are to explore topics of identity, culture, and justice—especially when they see themselves represented in the content.

With your support, these basic yet essential materials—markers, highlighters, snacks, cleaning wipes, a laminator, and pouches—will help me create engaging lessons that celebrate cultural identity and promote student voice.

My goal is to create a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment where students can connect their language learning with real-world topics like equity, representation, and justice. The laminator and pouches will allow me to preserve student-created visuals, bilingual vocabulary tools, and inspirational quotes from Hispanic, Afro-Latino and Indigenous leaders. Snacks and clean spaces help build trust and show students that they belong, no matter their background. These supplies are not just classroom tools—they are part of a larger effort to make every student feel seen, valued, and empowered to share their story and use their voices.
