My Project
This school year, my classroom was able to receive the Glowforge (laser engraver) which has allowed students to engrave different images and designs onto materials such as wood and acrylic. The students have used the laser engraver to create gifts for others such as for birthdays, teacher appreciation, and mother's day. In addition, I have also used the engraver to create puzzles for my students with disabilities that are in my class, so that they can color it and take it home. In order to allow students to continue using the Glowforge, I need materials such as different color acrylic, so that students can have the choice to engrave on different colored materials. In addition, the Glowforge also needs a new filter cartridge in order to continue to engrave.
My goal is to continue to provide students with the opportunity to engage with new technology such as the Glowforge, so that they are able to create and design items for others as well as themselves.
This coming school year, in addition to having students use the laser engraver during class time, I also want to create a laser engraving club, where students will have the opportunity to use the Glowforge after school.
My students are unique because I have students from different backgrounds and with different abilities. The materials for the laser engraver allows me to have students create their own puzzles, gifts, and keychains etc. My students also have the opportunity to engage with technology that they do not normally have the opportunity to.
