My Students

Middle school ages students 12-14 in a high poverty area, at-risk of joining gangs, in need of creative outlet and self-esteem building community involvement.

Arts and Literacy project. The project is unfunded from the school or district. Many young artists need an outlet. The mural art will send visual and text-based messages to the school's student population that express positivity and a spirit of nurturing which is non-existent in their community..

My Project

Our after-school program, LAS MANOS, is involved in a creative project to design and produce murals on the campus of our school. The group is composed of boys and girls, ages 12-15 from the school. Our goal is to generate mural art to beautify our campus and reinforce literacy skills amongst the student population. Our murals will be completely student-designed and painted, but we need your help to procure the supplies necessary to bring our ideas to fruition.

Students will be sharing the creative process of self expression as young people in our society.

The kids are elated to be given the opportunity to have a voice and be a part of something positive as part of the LAS MANOS project. The pride and sense of accomplishment on their faces and in their eyes is palpable. They are able to present messages to their entire school about what is possible through art and self-determination! Thank you for supporting this critically important project.
