Large Print Books Build Reader Confidence

I need to be able to provide large print versions of high interest books for struggling readers. Research supports these books increase fluency, stamina and reader confidence.

My Project

Large print books are more than a larger font. The pages are non-glossy which is more pleasing to the eye. The larger font allows students to gain confidence due to moving through the book at a pace equal to their peers instead of struggling through fewer pages in the same out of time. Large print books build inclusion for our struggling readers.

By selecting the high interest books my students want but in a larger font I would be able to provide my struggling readers with the same books their at level peers get to enjoy without the stigma of a "baby" book.

My students would be on equal footing with their at level peers increasing their willingness to check books out without fear of being judged. This would enable my struggling readers to engage with texts on their grade level instead of the ability level by providing a format with the students to be successful with a grade level book.
