This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school located in Little Havana, Florida. Almost 100% of the students that attend this school are on free or reduced lunch. I have the privilege of having looped with my former 2nd graders and now teach a 3rd grade, self-contained gifted class. This bunch is a highly inquisitive group, that is constantly coming up with "burning" questions throughout the day which they want answered right away.
Their brains are like huge factories working around the clock to produce new ideas or thoughts that they must investigate further.
Because they are so eager to learn, it is important for them to have a means of doing so on their own. Unfortunately, our students do not always have the technology available to them at our school or at home to follow through with their investigations.
My Project
These laptops will help my students reach their academic goals. They will be able to research topics for the many projects required in a Gifted classroom. The laptops will also allow them to reach their required minutes on county-wide required programs for literacy and mathematical success.
My students will be able to further the development of their 21st century skills, which will help make them competitive in their educational future.
They will be able to collaborate with one another creatively using their technological literacy.
My students will no longer feel like they are being held back by the lack of technology made available to them in their home or school due to insufficient funding. They will be able to venture out of their comfort zone to present their learning in ways they never imagined.
