This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine a classroom where every corner is filled with students learning through technology. My students are being introduced to technology in a computer class once a week and hunger for more. I want my students to learn on every type of technology out there.
I have 19 wonderful, energetic and inquisitive students.
My school is 98% free and reduced lunch which means that the majority of my students' family are in the lower socio-economic bracket. My students do not have tablets, desktops, or laptops to work on in their homes. Many of my students only access to Internet is on their parents' phone when they are allowed to use them. My kids have just arrived but they are ready to learn.
They hunger for more software, more applications, more educational games and printers to print their achievements. We have one working printer in the room and it is a black and white printer. It only prints from one desktop n the room. So printing kids pictures, awards, progress charts, or even pictures students have made is somewhat hard.
My Project
My technology workstation will be divided into 3 different sections (desktops, laptops, and tablets). I would install the educational software on the laptops I requested. The headphones and splitters will allow the students to have privacy and more than one student at a time at each laptop. The laptops will enable students to work on their own or with partners on skills that they might need extra help in. The laptops will also allow students to roam around the room and learn in comfort in different areas of the room. As you can imagine keeping four year olds in one place is hard work so having the freedom to move around is a blessing. The printers in the classroom will be of great use. I will allow the students to print pictures taken or artwork on our wireless printers. The printers will allow for the management of our classroom to be taken to a higher level. We will be able to print out student pictures, certificates, label the different workstations, and so much more
Getting funded would change my classroom environment and students' lives.
We are limited to two student computers, one black and white copier, and two tablets (the tablets were thanks to Donors Choose) and with 19 students that is simply unacceptable. A classroom in this day and age needs more technology. My students would be exposed to different types of technology that allows freedom for my little ones. My students will learn how to use tablets, desktops, laptops, and printers in one year.
