This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach English Literature to eager students at a high-needs, inner-city school. My students come from diverse backgrounds, but each shares in the struggle of coming from a low-income neighborhood. They are a great group of kids, but they lack many of the resources most schools take for granted.
Our school focuses around the dream of getting every student into college upon graduation.
My English class has a number of students voicing an interest in journalism, graphic design, creative writing, photography, and marketing. It has been successful, but we have struggled with not having access to the technology crucial to making a top quality product. Our school is new, and resources are limited. Computers are reserved for other subjects and are seldom available for my students to work on.
My Project
Portable computers will greatly improve my students ability to expand their knowledge of technology, both by providing access to the Internet for research and by giving them the means to express themselves through writing more effectively. Furthermore, the computers will help aide the students in acquiring skills necessary to be successful both in college and in their careers. Perhaps most importantly, the computers will improve my students spirits knowing that what they value is valued by others and that their dreams deserve the tools to make those dreams come true.
