Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come in and start reading. However, many of them are far below grade level in reading and are unable to read the 2nd grade materials. Using the laptops would allow them to practice and learn the necessary skills to build their reading with the use of some wonderful technology programs.

Most of my students are second language learners and come from low socio-economic homes.

Many of them are low academically due to the lack of speaking English or the lack of support from their parents because their parents don't speak English and or have had very little education themselves. Our school is Title I and has a Free School Lunch Program due to most of the families' low incomes. Our school lacks the funds necessary to buy computers or laptops for our students to use. Our classrooms have only one computer that mainly is used by the teachers. Having some laptops would allow a small group at a time work on their skills. All our students deserve to have the use of technology like other schools have and provide for their students.

My Project

I have many students in my class that are far below grade level. There are many wonderful programs on computers for them to use to help build their skills. The students I am mostly referring to are in need of help with their reading skills. They would use phonics and reading skills programs for improvement. For other students that may struggle in math skills, they could use math programs on the laptops. There are programs for which they can use to help with the new Common Core State Standards that we now have in California.

If I were to receive the laptops and headphones it would allow my struggling students to gain support in improving the skills that are necessary to get them on the right path.

It would build their confidence and self esteem. They would have a change to be successful. That is what I want for all my students. They deserve it!
