My students need two laptops to access Science curriculum and Science websites, and we need science models and CDs on earthquakes, weather and climate and thermometer. Our class has no student computers and our school doesn't have a computer lab.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Sixth and Seventh grade students are eager, young Earth Scientists. They love exploring new ideas in Science. But their opportunities are limited; our school has no classroom computers nor a computer lab. With new laptops, Science software, and other materials, every student's horizon will expand.
Our school is a small K-8 public school that emphasizes Science and the Arts.
Despite this, the Sixth and Seventh grade classes have limited Science equipment and no student dedicated computing devices. Our students are motivated learners, in fact they are eager, cooperative. They truly deserve more than they we are providing them.
We are a multicultural school with family backgrounds from around the world. Incomes are generally low. Families are dedicated to the welfare and education of their children.
Instruction is project based and special needs students are included in all classes. State test scores are very strong; especially when compared to schools of a similar socio-economic background.
My Project
This year all Sixth and Seventh graders will learn about Earth Science. Students will use the laptops to access government, scientific Internet sites devoted to earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes.
We need two laptops to access Science curriculum and Science websites, and we need science models and CDs on earthquakes, weather and climate and thermometer. The software will provide a second source of information and inspiration that to date they have not been offered.
Students will also learn about weather by observing the weather station, investigating the Internet, and diving into the software. They will learn about local patterns, seasonal changes, and causes of extreme weather.
Students will discover how the climate is now changing and how the Earth's climate during prehistorical eras.
For all units, students will collect and analyze data and report to the class using presentation software. Students will find the lessons challenging, but given the new resources, I am confident they will rise to the occasion.
Students at our school are highly motivated and eager to embrace new material and sources of information.
The laptops, software, and other Scientific materials represent new resources for many of our students. With your help my young Scientists will have an opportunity to use computer resources for the first time.
