Laptop Needed

My students need a MacBook Pro and Microsoft software to build their computer skills as they also learn their ABCs and 123s.

My Students

Unfortunately my school lacks computers in all the classrooms, including my pre-kindergarten classroom. This is a problem that I would like to alleviate. In an Internet and computer driven time, I would like to provide my students with the ability to maneuver around the computer easily.

There are 18 energetic three and four year old children in my class.

Our school includes students from pre-k to eighth grade. It is in a high poverty area and about 95% of the students in the school receive free lunch. Our school is in a low-income neighborhood where the budget cuts have left no hope that materials will be purchased in the near future.

My Project

My students will be able to properly navigate a computer screen using a mouse, as well as learning their ABC's and 123's through computer games that I can monitor. The portability of a laptop will also help in terms of storage, so that it can be moved to where there is room for my students to use the computer. Too often students use the Internet and randomly click on websites that they can, without realizing the places where they are entering. With carefully monitored games, not only will my students be able to learn how to use the mouse, but they will learn the lessons needed for kindergarten. My students will also learn the value of sharing, as two children will be able to work together taking turns moving the mouse and playing games. It is a skill that we are trying to teach each student, that takes a long time to grasp. I will use the Microsoft Office software write communications to the parents, complete lesson plans and PowerPoint presentations on the computer.

I am requesting a MAC laptop for my students because students often have access to a PC at home, school, or library.

I believe that it is equally important for students to be familiar with the "other" type of computer in the world. My students will be able to learn to use and navigate the MAC well to get to their desired destinations. They only need help obtaining it. Your donation will make it possible for my students to safely learn how to use a laptop, while improving their fine motor skill
