Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are ages eight and nine. The majority of my students are ELL (English Language Learners) whose parents work most of the day and into the evening. They spend most of their day in school and in after-school programs. Sadly, my students do not get a lot of adult attention or support and come to school in need of emotional support as well as academic support.
The students that I have are hardworking, determined, grateful, and curious.
These are just a few words that describe the amazing young people who enter my classroom each day. My students try to learn to the best of their abilities but need a lot of small group work. They are eager to learn, yet often times when they leave here they no longer have the English support they need. I try to engage my students in the classroom as much as I can by providing a variety of activities and sending them with things to do at home to support the work we did in class. They are our future, and I want to give them a great start to their long, successful careers.
My Project
My students have been seriously impacted by the schools shutting down in March due to the Coronavirus Pandemic and as we start this new school year, many students will be working from home once again. They have missed the daily interaction of school, friends, and teachers. The Macbook Air laptop I requested will allow me to give the most to my students in our new virtual learning community.
The proper laptop will enhance my ability to design lessons that reach all of my students, regardless of the technology they have at home.
The laptop that I am currently using for distance learning is very outdated. At the end of the last school year when I was holding virtual meetings, my laptop would freeze, and at times, had to be closed down, in order to continue. This was frustrating to my students and me as I would need to restart the whole lesson. Recently the camera has started to go on it, which will make Google Meets nearly impossible! I also see that when creating slide shows and presentations, my laptop is not able to handle the load. My laptop does not have the added technology to make my presentations truly engaging and eye-catching. Thank you so much for your help.
