This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Keep first graders engaged! A laptop has learning activities, stories and games that keep kids motivated. I teach first grade in a K-8 school in a large city. My classroom is a buzz of activity with thirty students cheering each others' achievements in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. The children are truly a community of learners who are reassured that it's OK to make mistakes and that is in fact, how people learn.
We are asking for a laptop computer that will help us meet national core standards.
My Project
Computers are a highly motivating reward for excellent classwork and behavior. I would also use the computer to write my lesson plans. Lesson plans need to be linked to national standards. With a laptop, I'll be able to easily access core standards as I write my lesson plans and the plans will be easily accessible in the classroom. One of the priorities in the standards is non-fiction reading and writing. A laptop will allow students to access on-line links to the digital Weekly Reader and Time for Kids. When children use a computer, they are so excited that they don't even realize that they're learning. There are several other websites for math and spelling that I would like my students to access in school.
Today's youth needs to prepare for college and career from the primary grades.
Technology is becoming more important in school and the workplace every day. A laptop will make learning enjoyable. There are numerous educational websites for both students and teachers. As a teacher, it is a dream to have an incentive such as a computer to motivate students to do their best work and then learn even more once they earn their reward!
