Laptop For The Daily Dolphin Student News Team

My students need a laptop computer, for their news broadcast, to display the news as a teleprompter, conduct research, produce video segments, word processing, and more.

My Students

Getting the day started at Dixon begins with the student-led broadcast news called "The Daily Dolphin". Our goals are extensive and include creating leaders within the student population. This will give these leaders the experience that builds confidence and teaches them to plan for their futures.

Our diverse news team began with the student council members, and has grown to include three more anchors.

Our team consists of 7 students from different races and backgrounds. These kids come together each morning, set up the equipment, practice, and prepare to present the news to our elementary school with enthusiasm. They have grown so much in the few weeks we've been airing. They are working with outdated equipment, but that has not dampened their spirits. Their horizons will be limitless with a new, dependable laptop. No matter the technical challenges, these kids and our News PLT produce their show with joy and leadership. They have become school celebrities, and strive to set a great example to the younger generation. When I mentioned getting this new equipment, they immediately began to plan and discuss its potential. They are ready to grow, and meet greater goals. I, for one, cannot wait to see where their creativity takes them.

My Project

Once this new laptop arrives we will set it up in the place of the one we've been using. This school year we are using a borrowed laptop, from the school's computer lab. It freezes up on the kids, and has a failing battery. With this new, dependable computer, these kids will be unstoppable. Our team will feel assured that the show will go on, without a hitch. It will be attached to a live streaming system, and our student-led broadcast will be shown across our school system's Internet, reaching our classrooms and the students' homes. Yes, the parents can even watch at home, and even at work! The feed from our current system is grainy, but with updated equipment, we hope to have a clearer image, and better sound. The students will be able to take videos from "on location" bits and edit the videos into a real production. We will be able to add features such as sound effects, and improve video. They will also be able to research and broaden their scope.

Donations to this project will improve our classrooms with a high quality daily morning news show.

It will inspire other students to try new things. The student news team will gain unmatchable experience that they will take with them as they work toward other goals in their futures. I am thrilled to be a part of this project, and I hope you will join me. Please donate and encourage others to do the same.
