This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A typical day in our resource room involves small groups of learning disabled students coming together to practice compensatory skill development. We chant sounds, rhymes, sight words, all with the goal to develop our reading skills.
We are a resource room classroom.
Our class is composed of learning disabled students living in one of the most impoverished neighborhoods in NYC. We are located in a Pre K-8th grade school. Our students have individualized educational plans (IEPs) that require them to be taught using VAKT methods. VAKT stands for visual, auditory, kinesthetic and tactile. The laptop will allow the opportunity for our students to access the Internet, perform research, and produce research projects.
My Project
The laptop we are requesting is nothing special other than a means to knowledge and research. Our students are hungry for information that our limited libraries do not offer. They are painfully aware that there is so much information out there for them to acquire and become familiar with that it pains them to know they have little access when others enjoy the liberty of jumping on a computer and accessing the world.
Our project will make a difference because our students are interested in learning.
They are interested in research and finding out different things about the world they live in. They are eager to learn but just need the means to gain access to the Internet and all it has to offer.
