This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a school which the state defines as "failing." But these students are not quitters. This year alone, among our students we have Posse scholars, a Questbridge Scholar, and a number of other academic honors.

At all levels, my students are trying hard to achieve.

Were you to walk down the halls of my school, you might think you are in the United Nations. We have students from five continents (and more than that number of islands) representing a diverse array of languages and cultures.

My Project

A math teacher, I am also in charge of my school's Robotics program. The students build robots on the Vex platform, and need to program their creations using a version of the C language. They've been doing this, up until now, on some hand-me-down laptops, shared with several other classes. Although the laptops are functional, the students never know from one day to the next whether they'll get the laptop that their work was saved on. I'd like to get a machine dedicated for my students to use. They'll know where their work is saved, and will always have access to it.

I try to make sure a lack of opportunity won't hold my students back.

As much as possible, I try to introduce technology and real-world situations to their studies. By funding this project, you will help my students get ready for the world.
