Our school serves students from grades 6-8 and integrates a rigorous academic schedule with arts education. As a result, we are consistently one of the top-performing schools every year. Part of what makes this school so special is that students travel from all 5 boroughs to attend this school and audition into a talent, be it vocal, dance, drama, writing, math, strings, band, and etc.
My students' passion for singing and performing inspires me each and everyday.
I am humbled to be their teacher and hope to inspire the next generation of musicians and artists, as my teachers did for me.
My Project
Recently, we have transitioned to fully remote learning. We went home on a Thursday and found out that in person learning would be indefinitely put on hold until further notice. Despite the many challenges my students face with remote learning, they continue to want to participate and are eager to learn.I want to continue to make my students excited about learning and find new ways to perform virtually!
The laptop that I am currently using for remote teaching is very old and the operating system is outdated.
There are even certain functions on ZOOM/Google Meet that I can’t properly utilize. Recently, the laptop has started to turn on and off on its own due to it getting easily overheated. As a teacher, it is imperative that I am able to meet the needs of all my students in the classroom and online. Since COVID-19, educators have had to readjust the way that we teach. Having the necessary technology will allow me to have a huge impact on students‘ learning. Additionally, this updated laptop will allow me to make virtual choir performances of my students singing together - which is extremely difficult on an outdated laptop where the screen keeps freezing and going out.
Here is an example of one of our virtual choir performances that I put together this past Spring and with your help can put together even more!

Now more than ever, it is so important that my students are still able to perform and make music together.
