I'm a Special Education teacher and literacy coach supporting teachers and students in kindergarten, first, and second grade in two different elementary schools in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Both schools are Title I schools, and the majority of the students I support receive free breakfast and lunch.
The neighborhood my schools are located in contains one of New York City's largest public housing developments, and most of my students reside there.
Due to the geographic location of the neighborhood, there are few trains and bus routes servicing the community, so my students are very isolated from all of the bells and whistles of New York City.
My Project
I am requesting a laptop. The students I work with will use this laptop to publish pieces of writing they have been working on. They also will use it to research and print out pages they find while searching the Internet for information on specific topics they want to learn more about. Additionally, I will use this laptop to display videos and PowerPoint presentations to enhance lessons for the kindergarten, first, and second grade students and for professional professional development series for the early elementary teachers and parents I support.
Without a laptop, my instruction of students and coaching of teachers is limited!
It's almost 2020! Every teacher and student should have a computer at their fingertips! Thank you so much for your support!
