This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The world is at our fingertips, but only if we have access to the world. A laptop can help give us that.
Hurricane Sandy caused massive, widespread power outages in our town.
We were out of school for two solid weeks, and some students who have been temporarily and permanently relocated from their homes.
My students are among some of the most fascinating I have ever worked with. They are 100% ESL (and comprise 65% of the school population) and have a huge range of personalities, from fun to serious and everything in between. They have voracious appetites for learning and are always ready to try something new!
My students attend a public school in New Jersey. The school is located in a very high poverty and high crime neighborhood. Virtually all of the students I teach were born in another country and have come here with their families for a better life. Financial struggles are common in most of their households and a strong education is key for lifelong success.
My Project
With access to a laptop, I will be able to expose my students to so many more things everyday. A laptop can give us instant access to vocabulary websites, interactive learning sites, and virtual field trips. While in most schools laptops and computers are the norm, for a floating ESL teacher this item is considered to be an incredible necessity.
Laptops not only make learning fun, but they also open a child's mind.
The access to available learning opportunities they will have access to simple by having a laptop is incredibly important.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
