This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I'm so excited to meet my new class of second-grade students. I'm eager to get to know my students, and I'm sure they will be thoughtful, inquisitive, bright, and eager to learn. Our school, situated in Providence, Rhode Island, has culturally diverse students, English Language Learners, and students with special needs. With the COVID-19 pandemic, whether students will be learning in the classroom or through distance learning, my students will have a productive and memorable school year. Our school gives students many wonderful opportunities to develop their creativity, knowledge, skills, and talents.
We strive to create a safe and nurturing school so students are happy, proud of who they are, and feel welcomed.
We teach inclusion, acceptance, empathy, and embrace diversity. We work as a team to succeed.
My Project
With your generosity and support, my second-graders will have additional seating options that can be used to social distance. The lap desks can be moved anywhere around the room, and they provide an alternative for students to sit wherever they want to complete educational activities. My students feel empowered when they are given choices, especially when they get to decide where they can sit to work for reading, writing, and math. Some students like to work on the floor or rug.
With the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card, I can access thousands of digital resources to be used with Google Classroom for distance learning to keep online learning engaging, standards-based, and fun.
Students LOVE writing on the dry-erase pockets to complete work, and the storage bins will keep center work organized. As students often have many questions, the new books on COVID-19 will be used to explain what is happening in the world, in a child-friendly way, so they know how to stay safe, healthy, and hopeful during this difficult time. The maps and globe will be used to help students learn about our state, country, and the world around them. All of these materials will benefit my students and our classroom.
