Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in a small, fully inclusive charter school, where almost seventy percent of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. I work with students who are labeled in many ways: ELL, LD, ID, BIP, IEP, SLP, apraxic, autistic, ADD, ADHD, ODD, and the list goes on. I'm working to help students remove their labels and find their feet, as well as their voices.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but one thing they have in common is their thirst for creative learning opportunities.
My Project
This project is for lap desks in my socially distanced classroom. As my school moves from remote to hybrid, our students still need 6 feet of distance to stay as safe and healthy as possible. These lap desks make it easy to sit students 6 feet from each other and offer storage for pencils, notebooks, and financial literacy supplies.
Lap desks will become tiny islands of security - complete with necessary supplies, and a place for their technology.
These lap desks are the first in a 3-part socially distancing project to ensure the safety and health of all students. The theme of the picture books is money, saving, and investments into our future. This project will provide students with classroom financial literacy resources, hands-on play coins/bills to hone their skills, and lap desks to learn from. COVID-Education is so intertwined.
