My Project
I have been an educator for more than two decades in Vallejo and at least a little more than ten years as a Filipino language teacher at Jesse Bethel High School. The diversity of my students' population inspired me to integrate art in learning some cultural aspects of the curriculum. Over the years I observed that my students are more inspired in doing Project Based Learning activities so I had this bright idea of celebrating the holiday, Christmas season the way traditional Filipinos prepare for the holidays. Hence the making of colorful lanterns, naming the parol/lantern and reasons for the name. This is mostly participated by a huge group of students, Filipino, Hispanic, African American and other ethnicities in all my classes annually.
The materials that will be provided for the Parol (Lantern) Project Based Learning Activity will help around 174 high school students, making their LEARNING FUN and culturally relevant as we celebrate the holiday season.
More than half of students from low‑income households
